MI ABUELA
By Jose Gomez, Jr., CEA, MVTA
For most of childhood, my grandmother Maria lived with us. She was such a special lady. I think that she had this idea that boys were supposed to be messy and lazy, so she always compensated for our lack of organization by cooking for us, cleaning after us, and just loving us like only a grandmother could.
About 2 years ago, she was diagnosed with cancer. Throughout her illness and resulting treatments, she fought hard to stay on her feet. Sometimes, she’d walk across the street to my house and walk with Trinity around the neighborhood, in spite of my mother strict orders to stay in the house. She was stubborn, and it bought her almost 2 years of life.
In December 2005, she passed away, just a few days before Christmas. This photo was taken Thanksgiving of that year, as she walked towards us to sit on the couch and enjoy some turkey with the family.
This is my Abuela May.

Its so refreshing to see a young man who cares so much about family that it spills out in every part of your being , I was raised by my grandma nannie, aunt doll, and mom these women have taught us a lot of things just by being the strong women that they are my Grandma passed in 2000 the day before my moms birthday we also went through the cancer thing but Nannie showed us strenghth we didnt know we had she was a very special lady and she always smelled so good! It was difficult but God is so faithful and I beleive all things work together for the good of those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose. So from all those different experiences I learned what it is I am supposed to be doing with my life thank you for allowing the Holy Spirit to confirm through you yet again. Jose you are a great role model and may the Lord bless you more and more you and your children. Rueben
